阿拉伯的地球日，展望鋁箔包回收大未來Tetra Pak Acknowledges Carton Collection Efforts on Earth Day

為響應4月22日的地球日，全球食品及包裝大廠利樂包在前一晚於吉達科學工藝中心舉行典禮，頒獎鼓勵阿拉伯聯合大公國24所國際學校在先前舉辦的「回收，讓城市淨空」比賽中回收空牛奶瓶及果汁紙盒的成果，典禮當天，超過一百位學生到場。同時，利樂包也針對今年地球日主旨─將溫室效應減到最小─發表新宣誓。
「這場回收比賽的目的在於告訴大家回收的好處、以及牛奶果汁盒的高回收性。我們對於學生們在回收上付出的熱忱相當感動，同時也希望這喚起了他們的環保意識。」阿拉伯利樂總經理薩西德補充：「這個訊息很重要，我們希望他們知道，回收飲料盒將不再是一種流行的選擇、而是必要的新生活模式。」
超過24所吉達地方及私立國際學校都參與這場比賽，角逐前三，奧瓦哈國際學校以116公斤的牛奶果汁盒贏得冠軍，獲得價值1萬沙幣的文具禮券（相當2千6百多美元），綠丘國際學校和澳安多拉斯私立學校分別以回收99公斤及96公斤分別拿下亞季軍，分得價值7千（約1千8百美元）及5千（約1千3百美元）沙幣禮券。
「對利樂包公司來說，這個計畫既大膽又有鼓舞力量。它明顯在突顯自己是間重視環保及社會投資的企業，」阿拉伯環保發展網絡（RAED）全國協調員納茲爾表示：「我相信這個創新企劃會成功，同時我也期待這種活動能拓展到全國其他地方。」
利樂包近日剛與NGO世界自然基金會（WWF）達成共識，表示將作林製品產品負責廠商的最佳典範，在接下來5 年內將二氧化碳排放量減少到絕對的10%；另外，利樂包也承諾在2008年前達到世界回收率標準的25%。

Tetra Pak, the world's leading food processing and packaging company yesterday acknowledged the efforts of 24 international schools for collecting empty milk and juice cartons as part of a beverage carton collection and recycling competition Recycle and Keep Your City Clean. An awards distribution ceremony was held on Saturday at the Jeddah Science and Technology Centre which was attended by over 100 students, teachers and people from all walks of life. The ceremony was held on the eve of Earth Day, a globally significant day on which Tetra Pak renewed its pledge to minimise its impact on global warming, theme for Earth Day this year.
“The objective of the carton collection competition was to raise awareness on the benefits of recycling and to highlight the recyclability of Tetra Pak juice and milk cartons. We were overwhelmed with the enthusiasm of the students and hope that this competition will inculcate environmental awareness among the students", remarked Amar Zahid, Managing Director Tetra Pak Arabia.
“It is vital to get the message across that recycling beverage cartons and waste is no longer just a fashionable option but an essential part of a new lifestyle we have to adopt", he added.
Over 24 local and international private schools in Jeddah competed for the 1st, 2nd and third prizes which included stationery vouchers worth SR10,000, SR7,000 and SR5,000 respectively. The first prize went to Al Waha International School for collecting 116 kgs of empty Tetra Pak juice and milk cartons whereas Green Hills International School and Al Andalous Private School were the other two winners collecting 99 kgs and 96 kgs empty Tetra Pak juice and milk cartons respectively.
"This program is a bold and encouraging move on Tetra Pak's part. It clearly shows that this is a company interested in investing in the environment and society," said ?Dr. Abdullah Naseer, the national coordinator for Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED). "I am sure this pilot will be a success and I look forward to see such programmes implemented kingdom-wide."
